Barbarenasuchus brasiliensis
Barbarenasuchus brasiliensis lived in the Triassic period about 220 to 200 million years ago. It is one of the oldest members of a group of animals called crocodylomorphs, meaning "crocodile shaped (Archosaurs)". It was found in what is now Brazil, hence its second name.

This was a small predatory reptile. It was definitely land based as fossil remains give no indication of adaptations to living in water. The upright stance of the animal is suited to running so it was probably highly mobile. While it or one of its close relatives gave rise to what would become today's crocodiles and alligators, this animal gives no clue of this in its appearance.
